hey you 🥳
a day late & a dollar short, we’re still celebrating Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday today just because! You can check out my birthday tribute to him on IG below:
John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
1967, 38 min 20 sec
I’m embarrassed to admit that before yesterday, I had no idea how significant this folk rock album is in the history of (Bob Dylan) music. During the time of it’s release this album was a big deal for several reasons, mostly because of how different the tunes are compared to anything else Bob had released prior to his mysterious motorcycle accident. In these story telling, lesson learning songs, we hear everything but a chorus to carry us through the folk rock melodies.
If you’re looking for a good read on this album, I recommend The Bob Dylan Commentaries’s - John Wesley Harding post.
“It’s an open question as to why Dylan decided to write a song that glorifies a murdering racist. The most likely explanation is probably that he didn’t know the real story in detail, but just liked the sound of the name.“
What’s your favorite Bob Dylan song?
See you next Tuesday,
